Once you step into St. James’ coffee shop Soul Brew, you’ll instantly feel at home with their comfortable chairs and scent of java, mixed with whatever amazing, intricate delicacy they are serving up that day. Soul Brew is locally owned by co-owners Kristin Walsh and Jeff & Nicole Petrocelli. Giving back to that “locally owned mantra”, Soul Brew's walls are covered in artwork (for sale!) by neighborhood artists and they host an Open Mic Night every Thursday at 7 pm. (TIP – arrive at 6:30 pm to sign up).
Besides Open Mic Night for aspiring artists, every Friday and Saturday Soul Brew has live music from musicians in the area, as well. Soul Brew also often holds fun classes - on January 18th, they are hosting a Cupcake Decorating Class with Rachel’s Cakes.
Soul Brew’s specials (selections of coffee, food, and lattes) change weekly, if not daily. Their current Latte Of The Day is the “Gingerbread Cookie, and strawberry” and all of their coffee beans are organic and from local companies. Their generous lunch portions include favorites like "Bird is The Word" (Eggs, cheddar, turkey and strawberry jam on a fresh panini).
Soul Brew’s pastry case can’t be beat! They are now featuring their well-known Galaxy Brownies (white chocolate brownies, with galactic swirled icing and stars) which melt in your mouth and taste almost like a Blondie. They are homemade by their experienced staff, along with most of their other treats!
If you haven’t noticed, the word “local” pops up a lot – that’s the core of Soul Brew, combined with their love for creating great food, delicious coffee, and a warm, cheerful atmosphere. It is a must-visit eatery for anything from your post-gym workout boost, your mom group get-together, or even a casual business meeting.
Current hours for Soul Brew are Mon-Wed 7am-7pm, Thurs-Sat 7am-6pm, Sun 7am-6pm. Kitchen hours are 7am-4pm daily. Check out their Instagram page for more outrageous pictures of their one-of-a-kind treats!
