The Weekender September 30 – October 1

1. Stony Brook Happy Harbor Day

When: Saturday, September 30th at 11 AM
Where: Long Beach Boat Ramp Launch. 555 Long Beach Rd, St James

Games & activities for kids Food Trucks and Ice Cream! The Village of Nissequogue and The Friends of Stony Brook Harbor, a coalition of neighbors from Head of the Harbor, Nissequogue and Stony Brook, will host Happy Harbor Day to raise awareness of the beautiful, yet fragile Stony Brook Harbor. In addition to a variety of environmental and marine science experts who will make presentations, there will be aquarium touch-tanks for young attendees as well as carnival games, all with a nautical theme. Two bands will perform, The Mondays, and The Royal Yard.

2. The Prom

When: September 30th and October 1st
Where: Theatre Three, 412 Main Street, Port Jefferson

As the lights dim on four fading Broadway stars, they wildly seek the spotlight. Courting the controversy surrounding a small-town Indiana prom, the quartet invades a community that wants to keep the party straight. With a score by Chad Beguelin and Matthew Sklar (The Wedding Singer, Elf – The Musical) and book by Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone) and Beguelin, Theatre Three is delighted to kick off its 53rd season with the award-winning crowd-pleaser THE PROM.

3. Snow White

When: Saturday, September 30th at 11 AM
Where: Ballet Long Island, 1863 Pond Rd. Ronkonkoma

See the magic unfold in this one-hour ballet performance of Snow White This enchanting fantasy stars all of your favorites the Prince, the Queen, and of course, Snow White. It’s the perfect way to begin a lifelong love of the arts. Ticket prices are as follows, Adult tickets are priced at $20, while children and senior tickets are at $10. Group rate is priced at 10 or more tickets $7 each and the Outreach Tickets at $7.

4. Family Fun Day 2023

When: Saturday, September 30th at 10AM
Where: Train Car Park, Southeast Corner of Rt 112 & Rt 347, Port Jefferson Station, NY

Celebrate Local Community, Local Business, and Good Ol’ Family fun! Bring a freshly baked Apple Pie for our Apple Pie baking contest and a homemade Scarecrow for our Scarecrow contest (prizes will be awarded). Live performances by Neu Era Gymnastics and Backstage dance highlighting our local talented youth as well as some tunes from the students at the School of Rock Port Jefferson Station.

5. Superheroes for Child Care 5K & Kids Fun Run

When: Saturday, September 30th at 9:30 AM
Where: Eisenhower Park Field 2, Parking Lot 2, East Meadow, NY

Superheroes for Child Care 5K& Kids Fun Run. Proceeds will go to the Child Care Council of Nassau, Inc. Child Care Council of Nassau, Inc. (CCCN, hereafter) is a private, not-for-profit organization that has served the community since 1972. CCCN provides child care counseling and referrals to families, professional development and technical assistance to active and potential providers, and offers services to employers interested in the child care needs of employees and their families. Through research and support of childcare-friendly public policy and development, CCCN serves as an informational resource and public voice for issues facing Nassau County’s diverse communities.

 6. Saint James Day

October 4, 2015 @ 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

The St. James Chamber of Commerce will hold its 34th Annual St. James Day on Sunday, October 1, 2023, along Lake Avenue in St. James, from Woodlawn Ave. to the train station.
